What is an Environmental Permit?

The Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 is the legislative system governing industrial and waste activities which have the potential to cause harm to human health or the environment. A permit is a document issued by a regulating authority to an operator allowing him or her to undertake specific controlled activities at a specific location. The operator must, after the grant of the permit, ensure that the activities are undertaken so as to comply with the conditions of the granted permit.
There are many types of permits that can be issued which cover a range of industrial and waste activities. Obtaining the right consent is critical to ensure you do not breach environmental law.
