Sarstedt GB – Carbon Reduction Plan

Sarstedt International is a global supplier of medical equipment for the healthcare industry. Sarstedt GB serves as the company’s sales division. To maintain its product sales to NHS trusts, Sarstedt needed to assess its carbon footprint and devise a plan to reduce its impact by the NHS’s net-zero target date of 2045. Consequently, Sarstedt Ltd engaged WRM to create a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) to bolster their forthcoming public procurement tenders with the NHS.

In accordance with Sarstedt’s requirements, WRM developed a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) that:

• Confirms their commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2045 for their UK operations;
• Provides current emissions data for Scope 1 and 2, and a subset of Scope 3 emissions, in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and Kyoto Protocol;
• Details the environmental management measures the company plans to implement or continue, along with new interventions, including certification schemes and specific carbon reduction measures.

To achieve the primary goal, WRM undertook the following steps:

• Assessing Sarstedt’s GHG reporting boundaries: Our team scoped the company’s activities and operations to determine the relevant aspects for Sarstedt to report in their CRP;
• Measuring Sarstedt’s carbon footprint: We utilised our in-house carbon calculator tool to establish the organisation’s baseline year emissions;
• Producing a written CRP document: We crafted a customer-facing CRP document for publication on Sarstedt’s website and for use in their forthcoming tender.

The creation of a CRP has allowed Sarstedt to meet the NHS Evergreen supplier framework’s standards. Sarstedt has completed their Evergreen assessment and obtained a sustainability maturity score aligned with NHS priorities, indicating their current status and the route for improvement. Consequently, the company can maintain its supply to the NHS while dedicating efforts to achieve its carbon reduction goals.
