Strategic Carbon Reduction Plans for Sustainable Emissions Management

WRM develop Carbon Reduction Plans that not only communicate your strong commitment to emissions reduction but also align with national, local, and market-driven timelines, showcasing supply chain synergies. We help you to delineate clear annual targets and essential actions for emission reduction, guiding sustainable business practices and proactively demonstrating environmental responsibility, particularly within the context of public contracts and supply chain expectations.

What is A Carbon Reduction Plan?

A Carbon Reduction plan sets out an organisations carbon footprint and identifies the commitment to reduce this to net zero by 2050 at the latest. The carbon footprint should be presented for all three Scopes and detail the organisation’s emissions across a single year accounting for all greenhouse gases. The plan should then present the proposed annual reduction in emissions, plotting a trajectory to net zero.

More holistic plans identify interventions that an organisation can make that supports the projected emissions reduction. These will include a range of technological and behavioural changes, that will result in an estimated emissions reduction in tonnes of CO2 equivalence. This enables organisations to plan for change, and identify where the biggest gains can be made, moving quicker towards becoming carbon neutral.

Why Develop A Carbon Reduction Plan?

Carbon Reduction Planning can be an effective way of communicating your commitment to reducing emissions. The plan can be clearly aligned to national, local and market driven timescales that demonstrate synergies between supply chains. On a practical level, the plan clearly identifies annual targets and key actions to be taken in order to meet emission reduction requirements, guiding sustainable business practices. Publicising a Carbon Reduction Plan demonstrates to stakeholders that an organisation is proactively working to reduce environmental liabilities as part of a wider corporate social responsibility initiative.

Carbon Reduction Plans are increasingly becoming an important element in public contracts tendering. Since the issue of Procurement Policy Note 06/21, any public contract with a minimum value of £5million can take Carbon Reduction Plans into the framework for tender evaluation and award. Supply chains are extending this reach as organisations seek to understand emissions across all Scopes, thereby requiring contractors to provide robust emissions data.

How We Make It Possible

At WRM we have been helping organisations to develop Carbon Reduction Plans for over decade.

Our team can support your sustainability goals by technically evaluating your emissions inventory and proposing a range of interventions that can reduce your carbon footprint.

Our science based approach to quantification of carbon emissions aligns to the structure of ISO14064, giving you the assurance that your carbon and environmental claims are robust. Our work across multiple sectors enables us to bring forward technological and behaviour change practices that you could adopt to reduce your carbon emissions. We have supported the adoption of low carbon development practices in the construction of key national infrastructure such as new hospitals.

  • I have worked with WRM for a number of years and always found them to be knowledgeable and hardworking. This was no different whilst working on multiple projects all at the same time.

  • I was very happy with the service that WRM provided when assisting the Trust to develop our Green Plan. They carried out a thorough assessment of carbon emissions and provided a pathway to allow us to meet the challenge of achieving net zero. The consultants involved in the project were highly knowledgeable and extremely professional.

  • Reducing utility costs and being greener are important to the Oulton Group; but with two busy practices it’s difficult to know where to start. WRM gave clear and detailed recommendations, cost and carbon savings and payback timescales to really help us to know where to focus our time and resources.
