The Environment Agency (EA) launched a new consultation for the Biowaste Treatment sector in October 2019. This consultation will review rule sets for varying types of biowaste treatment sites including:
- Anaerobic Digestion facilities;
- Composting facilities;
- Sewage sludge treatment facilities
The consultation proposes that changes will be considered for;
- 9 sets of rules for anaerobic digestion and sewage sludge treatment facilities;
- 8 sets of rules for composting facilities
The consultation provides operators, whom will operate under or may be influenced by these permits in the future, the opportunity to raise their concerns and considerations to the EA. This opportunity provides such operators with the chance to influence how they will be regulated and permitted over the coming years.
WRM believe that this is a crucial consultation for any operators whom may be subject to these standard rules and encourage all those affected to participate in the consultation process. This will ensure that the industry’s concerns and considerations are heard by the EA and may go some way to securing a more favourable regulatory environment.
