Codford Biogas Ltd Wins 7-year Local Authority Food Waste Contract

Codford Biogas Ltd, a leading anaerobic digestion (AD) facility operator, has won a 7-year contract to process food waste from North Somerset Council. This new contract will provide Codford with a consistent supply of feedstock to produce renewable energy and biofertiliser.

Codford Biogas operates an AD site in the Southwest of England. The facility accepts industrial, commercial and municipal biodegradable waste to produce 100% renewable electricity, renewable heat and PAS110 certified digestate bio-fertiliser.

To win the competitive tender for the North Somerset Council contract, Codford Biogas enlisted the services of WRM. The contract brief included Quality method statements (including a Carbon Footprint Assessment), TOM’s Social Value responses, a Selection Questionnaire, and management of the Portal submission.

WRM’s technical expertise was critical for securing Codford Biogas 100% of the contract waste tonnage, enabled by a score of 95% being awarded to the Quality and Social Value evaluation sections of the tender response. The 7,585 tonnes per year of food waste will significantly boost Codford’s feedstock security.

Chris Mallia, Operations Director of Codford Biogas, said:

“WRM provided excellent help and support through the tendering process. Their knowledge proved invaluable and their attention to detail was excellent. A daunting process was made very easy with their help, and we hope to utilize their skillset in the future.”

With the additional organic waste feedstock from North Somerset, Codford Biogas is now exploring an expansion of the facility. There is potential to add another anaerobic digester to increase renewable energy generation.

WRM’s tender support has been crucial in enabling this growth opportunity, and has a strong track record in helping clients win contracts in the waste management and renewable energy sectors.
