What Is A Health & Safety System?

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 which is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in Great Britain. This sets out the duties which employers have towards employees and each other, and the duties to members of the public. A management system is a set of policies and procedures that meet the requirements of health and safety legislation whilst being practical to implement across an organisation. Each management system should be bespoke to the organisational activities and based upon an assessment of risk. Some core elements of a health and safety management system are given below.

Why Develop A Health & Safety System?

Every organisation is legally required to manage health and safety and any organisation with five or more employees is obliged by law to have a written health and safety policy. Far more than just being a legal requirement, reducing the risk posed by the activities undertaken by people under your care is critical to ensuring everyone gets home safely.

The effective way to ensure this happens is to develop a management system that engenders safe systems of work by employees, contractors and visitors to your places of work. By integrating health and safety practices into a management system, safe systems become normal operational practices that do not increase costs or become a burden.

Developing management systems that meet the requirements of international standards such as ISO45001, can enable suppliers to access opportunities that are only available to those who can demonstrate safe working practices.

How We Make It Possible

We provide the resource and technical capability to fill your health and safety gaps.

Our team include NEBOSH qualified advisors with experience across a range of sectors, delivering the necessary assurance that your legal requirements are being met. We can be your critical friend, undertaking audits to assess legal compliance, or be more embedded within your organisation acting as your company representative.

At WRM we can ensure that your systems are to the required standard and can take your organisation through to accreditation to ISO 45001, demonstrating that your organisation is a leader in looking after the safety of its people.
