ReFood – PAS110 Certification

WRM were engaged by ReFood to provide consultancy support in achieving PAS110 and end of waste quality protocol certification for their 50,000 tonne per annum AD facility in Doncaster. The support provided by WRM commenced early in the development of the project to help open up the agricultural market for digestate and secure long term outlets. Further support was provided throughout the commissioning phase to establish management procedures and a sample testing regime in advance of an external audit by the accreditation body.

At the beginning of the process WRM undertook a full review of the site’s proposed operating procedures and suggested changes and revisions to the methods of work to ensure that practices reflected the requirements of the Standard. We also redefined and updated their record keeping procedures to support the batch management requirements of the Standard. WRM then followed up this procedural support by providing training for operational staff.

Throughout the testing period, WRM carried out:

• regular structured site visits to ensure that the processes and procedures installed were adhered to or altered in line with additional requirements identified
• a full pre-audit check in order to collate and present the necessary information that the audit may require and also to provide the site with a “dry run” for the actual audit day.

WRM were present during the certification audit to provide technical support as well as fielding questions from the auditor on the development of the management system.

Following successful certification to PAS110, WRM were retained to help recruit local farmers and develop a local supply chain with offsite storage for liquid digestate.

WRM worked to demonstrate that the quality of digestate was suitable for receiving landbanks through a range of approaches which included the production of agricultural benefit statements and engagement events with the local agricultural sector. The outcome from the work resulted in secure markets being contracted for 100% of the digestate output.

WRM continue to work with ReFood to build its agricultural network providing technical services for new AD developments and supporting digestate application to land.
