Health & Care

Our NHS became the world’s first health service to announce a commitment to reaching net zero and to do so by 2045. With more than 1 million people accessing NHS services every day, the NHS accounts for 4% of the total UK emissions. Having met and exceeded targets in 2020, the NHS continues to be a global leading organisation in decarbonisation and working with partnering organisations to deliver further emissions reduction targets.

How We Make It Possible

At WRM we are proud to have supported the NHS to achieve emissions reduction targets since 2012.

Our work with individual NHS Trusts, GP practices and NHS England has helped shape and contribute directly to the decarbonisation of the NHS. Our support has included the development of sustainability strategies and green plans, as well as providing seconded sustainability manager roles to realise and embed carbon reduction initiatives. WRM created a carbon literacy training pack for the NHS, helping train thousands of NHS staff to implement sustainable practices.

  • The trainers managed to cover a lot of content which was brilliant, they covered a lot of important and relevant material and facts

  • WRM delivered a genuinely informative session to the Estates and Facilities department. The training was really well received by my colleagues, and we are going to deliver more training across the team following the first session. The actions that come out of these sessions will no doubt help us fulfil our ambition of becoming the Greenest Trust in the UK.

  • WRM conducted a thorough and well-structured assessment of the technology options available to us. They provided clarity on a number of technical and financial questions and provided a report that allowed us to make a justified decision on whether to proceed with the project or not. WRM’s consultancy service was professional, and they provided excellent insight into the questions we asked.

  • The CSR strategy that WRM produces, helped us to take account of our environmental, economic and social impacts and to develop a way to address these issues. By adopting an effective CSR strategy, we can improve our public perception, competitive position and most importantly, mitigate any negative impacts caused by our activities.

  • I was very happy with the service that WRM provided when assisting the Trust to develop our Green Plan. They carried out a thorough assessment of carbon emissions and provided a pathway to allow us to meet the challenge of achieving net zero. The consultants involved in the project were highly knowledgeable and extremely professional.

  • Reducing utility costs and being greener are important to the Oulton Group; but with two busy practices it’s difficult to know where to start. WRM gave clear and detailed recommendations, cost and carbon savings and payback timescales to really help us to know where to focus our time and resources.
