The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Planning (HACCP) section of the PAS100:2018 standard has been re-written to consider hazards from the intended use of the compost affecting quality as well as safety, and is now known as the Safety and Quality control system (SQCS).

The Safety and Quality Control System shall consist of:

  • a HACCP study;
  • the team members and their training and experience;
  • each product’s description and its intended use, as well as
  • visually presenting the process flow in a clear diagram.

The HACCP study will be carried out in accordance with the 7 principles laid down in the Codex Alimentarius Commission’s ‘Principles of the HACCP system’.

The HACCP plan needs to be kept up to date. This is to ensure it stays in line with customers’ needs, processing technologies, input materials and any new hazards that emerge.

Changes are to be in place as from 1st January 2019.
